Tonight we were invited out to give a presentation to the 1st Ardrossan Sparks! They learned what a disability was and that there are visible and invisible disabilities and that service dogs can sometimes help people that have them. Renee spoke with them about Type 1 diabetes and explained that some Service Dogs can alert their handler to highs and lows in blood sugar. Then Samantha told them a little bit about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and how a Service Dog can help someone who has PTSD.
Afterwards Zakk and Lance demonstrated some of the tasks they've learned and then Renee explained that if you ever see a Service Dog working you should never try to pet or distract them because if the Service Dog is distracted they might miss something very important and their handler could be hurt.
At the end of the presentation Zakk and Lance had their vests removed and got the chance to visit with the kids. They were very happy to be the center of attention and get so many pats.
Thank you so much to the 1st Ardrossan Sparks for inviting us out! We had a great time!
